William R. Pope, "Bucky" as he was known to his BellSouth Corp. coworkers of 37 years, of Plantation Key, Florida, passed away at the age of 76 on the morning of May 30, 2013, after a brief but valiant battle with FTD/ALS (Lou Gehrig's). He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 53 years, Gerrie; daughter Lori (George) Harrop and their children Will and Meg; son Billy (Amy) Pope and their son William; brother Thomas Pope and sister Marguerite McTiernan. Bill and Gerrie, originally from Long Island, NY, moved to Plantation Key from Miami in 1971, where they caringly raised their two children. Bill's can-do attitude and love for life will be greatly missed. He loved spending time with his family and on the water in the Keys, which he affectionately referred to as "The Rock". Visitation will be Thursday, June 6th and Friday, June 7th from 5-8 p.m. at Allen-Beyer Funeral Home in Key Largo at 101640 Overseas Highway. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8th at San Pedro Catholic Church at MM 89.5 Overseas Highway on Plantation Key.
