Sharon Margaret Barr, also known to her students as Doey, Holey, Meyer, and Barr, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at her home in Tavernier, FL on October 19, 2018.
Sharon was a resident of the Florida Keys for over 26 years; born on June 15, 1939 in Passaic, NJ to David & Bertha (McCabe) Doey. She graduated from Manasquan High School, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Albright College. Sharon was an AP English, Spanish and Speech teacher at the Wall Township High School for over 31 years.
When she was not jumping out of airplanes for the “Company,” she was an accomplished scuba diver, practiced tai chi, and learned to ski late her 40’s.
Sharon is preceded in death by both her parents, and her son Michael Holey. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Barr; children: DeAnne Conroy (Thomas Smith), David Holey, Richard R. Barr (Wayne Gooding), Jennifer (Tom) Sperduto; grandchildren: Jessica (Steve) Smokowski, Leah (John) Macerino, Rebecca (John) Desilets and Emily Sperduto; great-grandchildren: Owen, Natalie, John and Jameson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Island Community Church, Monday, October 29, 11:00AM, US 1 mile marker 83.250; Pastor Tony Hammon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity or your local animal shelter.
