Anderson, Russell Dean, of Key Largo died on May 4, 2011. After graduating from Muskegon High School in 1964, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and joined the Fremont Police Department as a K-9 Handler, then became a MI Chief Investigator with Newaygo County Circuit Court. He moved to Florida and joined the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. He served as a Deputy Sheriff in the Civil Division, a Supervisor Detective with the Criminal Investigation Unit and Sergeant Road Patrol. He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the 482nd Fighter Wing in Homestead where he was also a security forces member and a fire team member. He was a flight chief, CATM, combat small arms instructor. He joined the U.S. Marshall's service S/D/FL in 1985 and was a Public Safety Officer with Ocean Reef Community Association. Russ was a state Firefighter 1 and an EMT and was an Officer/Instructor for the state of Florida. He worked with the Keys EMS, Inc and was a volunteer with the Key Largo Volunteer Ambulance Corp. Over the course of his career, he earned numerous awards. Russ was preceded in death by his parents Carl Alfred Anderson and Anna Marie Reck. He is survived by his wife Loni, children Kimberly Anderson, Gina Anderson, Jeremy (Kelly) Dean, Jeffrey (Whitney) Dean, Lonnie Ginn, Lavinnia Ginn; his grandson Russell Haughton-James; and his brother Jerome (Janet) Anderson and 1 niece and 2 nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Upper Keys Humane Society or the Key Largo Animal Shelter. Funeral services were held on Wed. May 11, at the BPOE #1872, Tavernier, FL at 7:00 p.m.
