Biography

Robert Dennis Maxey 67, of Key Largo, Florida formerly of Indianapolis, passed away March 19th, 2011. He was born October 2, 1943 in Beech Grove to the late Walter & Ellen (Richards) Maxey. He graduated from Warren Central High School in 1961. After graduating, he enlisted and served for 4 ½ years in the US Navy After graduating from tech school in Memphis, TN he was stationed in Jacksonville, FL assigned to Patrol Squadron Thirty as a mechanic and crew member on P2Vs and sub hunters until 1965. Returning to Indianapolis he worked for the Marion County Sheriffs Department for 30 years retiring in May of 1997. He enjoyed every aspect of working for the Sheriffs Dept and had many stories of being a road officer, cycles, traveling with the motor cycle drill team, being a part of the search and rescue dive team as well as working in internal affairs and property crimes. He was a member of the Brookside Masonic Lodge #720; Key Largo Moose Lodge #2287; Deputy Sheriffs Fraternal Orginazations where he made a great Santa for the children's party each year and brought joy to literally thousands of kids; and the Key Largo Elks Lodge BPOE #1872, Exalted Ruler in 1998-1999, 2003-2004; served as Loyal Knight, Leading Knight, Trustee, Vice Chairman for the Florida State Elks Assoc; South District Vice president from 2007-2008; District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler from 2008-2009; served as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the Grand Lodge; Special Deputy to the Marathon Lodge and was the current South District Director of the Children's Therapy Services. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Connie (Reddick) Maxey, his children Dawn R (Tom) Horlacher; Robert D (Katie) Maxey Jr; brother Gary L (Barb) Maxey; sister Donna M (Tom) Sego; brother-in-law Kenneth E (Donna) Reddick Jr; brother-in-law Michael L (Rachael) Reddick; 7 grandchildren, Crystal, Candice, Kyle, Nick, Alley, Gabby and Genna and 2 great grandchildren, Caiden and Alex; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. You were an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. You had an amazing heart full of love, compassion and forgiveness. Your selfless support and love to everyone you touched will never be forgotten. We are all better for knowing you and we are blessed and thankful for the memories that we will always have. Memorial services are Saturday, April 16th at 3:00pm at Franklin Central Christian Church, 4100 S Franklin Rd in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Florida Keys Elks Lodge #1872 at PO Box 255 Tavernier, FL 33070
