Raymond Louis Truche died at the age of 80 on Thursday, April 14, 2011. His family was by his side as "Sonny" passed peacefully in his sleep in his home in Key Largo, Florida. Sonny died from a rare and often fatal disease known as amyloidosis. He surprised both the medical community and his family and friends by living with this disease for over 20 years, something that earned him the name of "medical marvel." Friends joked that he would outlive the Energizer bunny.

Sonny is a graduate of St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA and attended Pratt Institute and Lowell Technical Institute as a chemistry major. He chose to follow his dad's passion for leather and eventually opened his own tannery in Salem, MA. Sonny also had a great mechanical mind. To everyone's amusement and amazement, he was able to fix any broken item with what he had laying around the house. He always liked a challenge from sailboat racing to scuba diving to singlehandedly moving his 20x30-foot garage 100 feet uphill to a new location. At age 70 and having had a kidney transplant, he flew in a Pitts Special aerobatic biplane that his best buddy set up for him-the pilot commented that "he did better than a 20-year-old hardbody who just wanted a rush." He was an excellent storyteller and always had an open mind and a kind heart while listening to others. Sonny was passionate about family, friends and boating, all of which he enjoyed while living in the Keys.
Raymond, the son of Louis and Jane Truche, is originally from Salem, MA. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia, his two sons Raymond Jr. and David, his daughter-in-law Debbie, his beloved granddaughters Lindsay and Megan, and several nieces and nephews.
All who knew him will miss him dearly. His decision was to leave this world quietly. In lieu of a service, he requested a small family gathering, which will take place in Key Largo in the near future.
