Piers Harley
Piers Harley died suddenly February 27, 2011 at the age of 64 while on a dive trip in the Florida Keys. He leaves behind family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic.
In the United Kingdom, he is survived by his mother, Anita Harley, daughters Samara Hawthorn and her partner Steve, Amanda Harley and her fiancé© James, and Rebecca Harley, his sister Helen Chandler and her husband Brian, brother Neal Harley, grandchildren Zania, Brannoc, Taran & Billy, nephews Peter Chandler, Stephen Chandler, and Paul Harley, niece Nicola Harley and dear friends Ashwin Vyas and George Ogden.
In the United States, he leaves behind his loving wife, Grace DiGennaro, mother in law Sally DiGennaro, stepsons Matthew Hyman and his wife Beth, Andrew Hyman and his wife Kasey, grandchildren Allison, Jay, Jackson and Dylan. He also leaves behind esteemed colleagues Jack Benton, John MacAllister, Wayne Boucher and Barry Welch as well as many other dear friends and colleagues around the globe.
Piers was born in New Denham, Bucks, grew up in Gerrards Cross, Bucks and went to Royal Grammar school in High Wycombe. He attended Loughborough University and graduated with Honors, earning a BA in Technology, Chemistry and Management Studies.
He began his career in sales, but what most brought him joy and satisfaction was his work as a consultant in the Financial Services Industry. He opened and headed the Benton International Inc office in London working with many of the world's leading banks, card companies and payment processors. He was known for his fiery temper, but also his kindness and generosity---many would say, not unkindly, that he was indeed a character.
Piers loved diving, and was a certified PADI master instructor. He was especially drawn to the sea, but generally enjoyed everything nature had to offer. He also had a healthy respect for learning and education, contributing to provide school facilities, teachers and support for families and their children in a town in Kenya. He had a very fun and spontaneous side and loved getting together with family and friends in the UK and US. He will be sorely missed.
