Nancy Friend

Nancy Fleming Friend, also known as “Sugar Mama” passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2022 in Duck Key, Florida.

Nancy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 26,1958 to Beatrice and William Fleming. She grew up in Maryland and married her high school sweetheart, Steve Friend.

Alongside her husband she raised four children with love and devotion as a stay-at-home mother in Cross Junction, Virginia for many years. During this time she frequently planned outings emphasizing the importance of experiences for her children and often friends.

She continued her education to earn a degree in computer programming and later proudly graduated nursing school summa cum laude.
As a Registered Nurse, Nancy dedicated herself  to providing care for her patients and coworkers making many long lasting friendships.

She will be remembered as generous, caring, funny and welcoming to all. She loved her family and spared no time or expense making sure everyones needs were met. She loved the beach and enjoyed coordinating family vacations. In the summer she was happiest floating in her backyard pool listening to Jimmy Buffet.  She filled everyone’s lives with laughter and whole heartedly enjoyed doing that extra something to make you feel special.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years Steven Friend Sr. and their children, Casey McMinn, Lauren Friend, Steven Friend Jr., and Jacob Friend. Her grandchildren, Sunshine Mcinturff, Aiden McInturff, Wyatt McMInn, Levi McMinn, and Ellie Friend. Siblings Bill Fleming, Joanne Banky and Bobby Fleming and many very loved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be planned by family and announced at a later date.
