Maria R. Geissler
July 21, 1911- February 19, 2011
Born in Austria, she grew up in the Sudetenland, which was incorporated into Czechoslovakia after World War I, then became Germany in 1938 and again Czechoslovakia after World War II. She lost her husband, Otto Geissler, in a Czech concentration camp in 1946 before being forcefully evacuated with her children to Germany. In 1958 she immigrated to the United States and lived in Yonkers, NY until her retirement in 1983. Since then she has lived with her daughter Johanna Purvis, first in Columbia, SC, and since December 2001 in Tavernier, FL.
She is survived by a son, Dieter Geissler (Gerda Mohl Geissler) of Germany; daughter Johanna Purvis of Tavernier; Grandson Michael Purvis (Gay Odom Purvis) and great-grandson Ethan Purvis of Tavernier; and Grandsons Scott Purvis of Los Angeles, Horst Geissler and Udo Geissler of Germany; Granddaughters Doris Hildebrand (Geissler), Christine Geissler, and Heidi Kebernik (Geissler) of Germany. She has seven great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Germany at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
