Lloyd M. Knouse
Lloyd Marion Knouse, 92, passed away May 6, 2012 in Islamorada, FL. He was born June 23, 1919 in Harrah, OK to Emitt Knouse and Annie Heck. He moved to Miami, FL in the 1930s to work with his father. He then enlisted in the Navy during WWII and saw combat in the Pacific theatre. Upon returning, he went to work for Holsum Bakery, where he worked as a driver/salesman delivering Holsum products to merchants from Homestead to Marathon. He left Holsum to begin farming in south Florida in the mid 1950s. In 1975 he retired to Islamorada where he enjoyed fishing, diving, and boating. He was a long standing member of USCG Auxiliary attached to Station Islamorada, he also belonged to the Florida Rolling Gators, and the Florida Keys Outboard Club. He never lost his love for farming and continued gardening at his home in Venetian Shores, sharing with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by longtime companion Ruth Walpole, daughter Chandra Knouse, two sisters Rita Carbulon and Ina Gent, and step-children Shirley Gaylord, Gordon Floyd, and Judith Kinloch. Mr. Knouse is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, four nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by first wife Renata, second wife Ruth, son Ryan, and brothers Samuel and Lester.
Saturday, May 19, at 1:00 p.m., boats will leave from Lloyds home to scatter his ashes near Cotton Key, returning for a celebration of life at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Laura Quinn Wild Bird Center, Tavernier, FL in his name.
