Linda Gail (nee Guthrie) Philips, age 71, of Key Largo, FL, passed away November 12, 2013 at her home. She was born on October 8, 1942, to William and Ida Guthrie in Camden, NJ. She grew up in Bridgeton, NJ and graduated High School in 1960, and went on to graduate from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing in 1963. A year later, she married the love of her life, B. Calvin Philips, in Central Methodist Church. They moved together to Trenton, NJ, where she worked as an RN at Princeton Hospital in obstetrics while her husband finished his college at Rider University. In 1966, they moved to Streeter, IL for Cal's new job with Owens Illinois, where she continued her hospital work in obstetrics, and a year later their first son Brian was born. During the next 11 years (1968-1979), they moved between Toledo, OH; Brockport, NY, where their son Kevin was born, and to Valencia and Caracas, Venezuela, where they bought their first of many boats "Carisma", before buying their lake house in Higgins Lake, MI in 1986. Linda and Cal bought their condo in Ocean Reef Club in 1994, and moved to Key Largo a few years later. She was a member of the Ocean Reef Club, and Fox Run Country Club in Grayling, MI. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, cruising the Bahamas, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, B. Calvin Philips; son Brian (wife Laura) and granddaughter Megan, of Dallas, TX; son Kevin (wife Kendra) and grandson Cole, of Oakland, NJ; grandson Brandon, of Phoenix, AZ; Great-grandson Acen, of Canyon Lakes, CA; and sister Karen (husband David) Sandler of Columbia, MD. Linda volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 30 years, helping those with disaster relief all over the U.S. and the Caribbean. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, the Higgins Lake Foundation, and the Ocean Reef Medical Center.
