Leon Dermer

December 12, 1942 — June 13, 2021

Islamorada

Capt. Leon Robert Dermer , 78, of Islamorada, Florida passed away on June 13, 2021 as a result of COPD.  He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jenifer, as well as a son, Aron Dermer, two daughters, Amy and Amanda Dermer a granddaughter, Hannah Dermer and a step-daughter Jessica Drake.

Leon was a brilliant businessman, with a career that started with making clothing.  His knowledge of business allowed him to become a business consultant.  Throughout his life, he was a successful president of many corporations.

He was also an Army Veteran and a USCG Captain.  One of his favorite positions in life was as Captain of his 47' Rybovich, Happy Times, which he chartered off the dock at Hawk's Cay Marina.    His most recent success was Captain's Imports in Key Largo, where he built a beautiful gallery of sea life art in many mediums.

Leon will be remembered as a person of startlingly quick wit, brilliance and a gentle heart.  Those who knew Leon will remember him as the ultimate story-teller with a bigger-than-life personality.  He could do some dazzling card tricks and played poker with the best of them.  The world is a different place without him.

Leon requested that no service would be performed on his passing and that in lieu of any flowers, a donation could be made to the World Parrot Mission, 99150 Overseas Highway, Key Largo, FL  33037.
