Juanita Legate

Juanita Powell LeGate, age 63, passed away June 3, 2021. She was born August 26, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa to Charles and Patricia (Stambary) Powell, now Patricia Lawrence.

Juanita passed away unexpectedly at her home in Tavernier, Florida.

Juanita was a beautiful woman loved by so many.  She was someone who could bring joy and happiness into your day by just being around her.  Juanita loved the water, especially the ocean and tournament sail fishing.  Her 18’ Shipoke flats skiff was her favorite way to get to and from the “Sandbar” off Holiday Isle with all of her friends.  She loved camping at the “Cape” with her friends.  Juanita loved her two dogs, Rocky and Chewy.  More recently, Juanita adored little “Charlie” the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.

Juanita moved to the Florida Keys early in her life graduating from Coral Shores High School in Islamorada.  Early in her career, she worked in the Monroe County Court system.  Most of her adult life, she spent bartending in the Florida Keys.

Juanita and Mark Granville-Smith, of Manassas Virginia, had a very special and loving relationship over the last few years of her life.  That Love will live on with Juanita now being at peace in heaven.

Survivors include siblings Cindy and Steven, her Mother Patricia (Stambary) Lawrence and Step Father Larry Lawrence.

Juanita’s remains will be returned to the waters she so loved off Islamorada in a private ceremony at a later date.
