Mr. John Sutfin, age 76, died May 2, 2015, at his home in Key Largo, Florida, with his family at his side. Survivors include his wife Candace Kleber Sutfin, son William, daughter Jennifer Mitchell (James), daughter-in-law Judy Sutfin, grandsons John and Bryce, granddaughters Caroline and Macy; and brothers Charles (Barbara), George (Mary), William (Gwen) and many nieces and nephews. John was born on May 1, 1939, in Elgin, Illinois, son of the late Martha Miller Sutfin and Vernon Sutfin of Dundee, Illinois. Mr. Sutfin was a 1957 graduate of Dundee High School. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Denver and his advanced Management Degree from Harvard University. He began his financial career in 1961 with the Northern Trust Company in Chicago, Illinois. He worked for Northern Trust for 35 years until 1996, when he retired as Vice Chairman of the Bank and was a Director. He also served on the Board of Directors of Northern Trust/Oak Brook and Banque Scandinave en Suisse, Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Sutfin's community/charitable involvements included serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Greater-Illinois chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and on the International Board of the MS Society. He also served on the Boards of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness and the Central DuPage Hospital. John was member of the Chicago Athletic Club, the River Club of Chicago, the Economic Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and the Chicago Club. In 1996, he and Candace discovered the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, which he made one of his retirement homes along with Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Northport Michigan. He was a member of Chicago Golf Club, Wheaton, Illinois, the Racquet Club at Ocean Reef, the Ocean Reef Yacht Club, and the Card Sound Golf Club, Key Largo, Florida, where he enjoyed skiing, fishing, biking, boating, tennis, reading and golf. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to New Hope C.O.R.P.S., 1020 North Krome Ave, Homestead Florida 33030, or the Leelanau Conservancy, 105 1St Street, Leland, MI. 49654. A memorial service is to be held at the Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 224 North Main Street, Wheaton, IL at 3:00 P.M. on May 22, 2015 with reception at Chicago Golf Club to follow.
