John D. Prince, Jr. "Captain John", "Spider John" or "Skippy" entered into Eternal Peace June 7, 2010. Captain John was born in Memphis, TN. He moved to New Orleans, LA where he joined the Army's 101st Airborne Division, the Sreaming Eagles, to fight for his country in Vietnam. He was decorated with the Bronze Star medal for heroism and 4 purple hearts. Captain John then set off to run a successful wood retail business for the next fifteen years. The sea had always called Captain John so he moved to Virginia Beach, VA to start a windsurfing business. After this venture he moved to St. John in the USVI to pursue his life long dream of chasing the elusive blue marlin. He had the pleasure of fishing with people from all walks of life including President Bill Clinton and the Rockfeller Family. Captain John always said "He never met a stranger". He truly touched so many lives with his big heart.
His four wonderful children that were the apple of his eyes survive him. ShanAnn (Jeff) Mitchell, John D. Prince, III, Breeanna and Joshua Prince; and grandson Jake Mitchell, who Captain John adored. Also surviving are his parents John D. Prince, Sr. and Doris Prince; brother Peter "Grube" Prince and loved nephew and niece Parker Prince and Madison Prince. Captain John had a special angel on earth in Glenda Smith, through her never tiring love and care by his side till the end. As a family we are very grateful to her. Captain John's last request was for everyone to celebrate his life and not be sad because he was moving on to the Golden Streets Of Heaven where he could fish forever!
