Captain John J. Felso, age 75, a longtime resident of the Florida Keys, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2018. John was born in Doylestown, PA on December 15, 1942 to Julius and Mary (nee Allen) Felso. He was a helicopter pilot in the US Army, as well as a Master Merchant Marine Officer in the US Coast Guard. He was the Quality Control Inspector with the US Navy and US Corps of Engineers. John was the owner and operator of Emergency Marine Services Inc. of Key Largo, FL. He was a volunteer of the Key Largo Ambulance, Burton Memorial Church, and the Mariners Hospital Auxiliary as a greeter at the hospital. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Florida Keys Historical Society, and the Monroe County Marauders.
John was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, James and Joseph Felso.
He is survived by his sons, John A. Felso (Kim) of Eustis, FL and John Felso of Gainesville, GA; stepdaughters, Beverly Crawford (Justin) of Pacific Grove, CA, and Carli Bushey (Lisa Lawson) both of Key Largo, FL; stepsons, William H. and Eric K. Crawford both of FL; 7 grandchildren, John Roman and Aaron Michael Felso both of Eustis, FL,Valkyrie Felso of Princeton, NJ, Vanessa Felso of Decatur, GA, John C. Felso of Gainesville, GA, Olivia Felso and Vivian Felso both of Alpharetta, GA; brother, Jules Joseph Felso of Boyton Beach, FL, and many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 3-5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 333, 2 Seagate Blvd, Key Largo, FL 33037.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Upper Keys Humane Society, 101617 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, FL 33037.
