JOHN DITTRICH
After being given a 16 month gift of time, John Dittrich, 76, peacefully passed away, surrounded by love ones, on Thursday, January 2, 2014, in Key Largo, FL. He was born and raised in Queens, NY, served in the U.S. Army, and after 22 years retired from the NYPD as a sergeant in 1981. He was a lifetime member of the NYC Sgt. Benevolent Assn, Retired Sgt. Assn as well as a member of the NYS Fraternal Order of Police. In 1974 he bought a home in West Dover, VT, where he enjoyed both winter and summer activities very much.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of 43 years; his sister Dorothy Dittrich; his sister Joan Graetz and husband Walter; sisters-in-law Dorothy Cichocki and Carolyn McNamara. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, along with many longtime friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Agneita Dittrich, a sister Eleanor Barrack and her husband George, and 2 nephews.
Final arrangements are pending for a memorial to be held in his hometown of West Dover.
