Joan Marie Dickinson (Lauder)
March 20, 1923-April 22, 2012
Joan passed peacefully in her home in Key Largo, FL surrounded by her loving family on April 22, 2012 at the age of 89.
She was born in Meriden, CT to the late Percy and Hazel Lauder. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1940 and went to work at the Miller Co. until her marriage in 1944 to Robert G. Dickinson (predeceased 1989). With 20 years as a Navy wife and 45 years of marriage with five children, they raised their family in Amston, CT. After many travels they retired in Key Largo, FL in 1985.
Joan was an active member of the Women's Guild of San Pedro Church and parishioner where she donated her time and talent with her crafts, homemade sweaters, hats for newborns, crochet dolls, and afghans and volunteered at Plantation Key Nursing Center. Joan's hands were never idle; she was always on the go. She was also president of the Silver Belles Woman's Club in the community she resided in for many years. She would teach others how to do crafts, crocheting, and knitting. She had many great talents.
She was also predeceased by her son, Bobby Dickinson; and siblings Virginia Brainerd and Henry Lauder.
She is survived by her four daughters: Suzanne Dickinson, Barbara Dickinson, Annette (Charles) Moran, and Karen (Robert) Simone; seven grandchildren: Anthony, Christopher, Dawn, Angela, Spencer, Emily, and Valerie; one great grandchild Anthony Jr.; three siblings: Ellsworth Lauder, William Lauder, and Nancy Skiados; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at Allen-Beyer Funeral Home, 101640 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, FL.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, at San Pedro Catholic Church, 89500 Overseas Hwy, Tavernier, FL.
