F. Bay Neal Jr. was born March 13, 1940 in Windsor, Ontario and died June 24, 2011, at home in Islamorada, FL with wife, Barbara, and friend, Pam Hamby by his side.
Bay grew up in Fairfield, CT. He attended Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ, Cornwall Academy in Great Barrington, MA and the University of Virginia. He graduated from Michigan State University. He was a licensed stock broker by the age of 19 and a pioneer in the mortgage insurance industry.
Bay was a life-long runner. He competed on cross country teams in high school and college and was a long distance runner throughout his life. He loved nature, the water, fishing/diving in the Keys and Bahamas, traveling the world, and living his dream.
Bay moved to Islamorada in 1978, where he fished his beloved classics, a 53' Hatteras and 23' SeaCraft. He rallied the crew to fish many bleary eyed early mornings with Johnny Cash's "I hear the train a comin'".
He was thoughtful, principled, quietly dignified, had a wonderful sense of humor and could spin a great tale. He believed happiness was a way of traveling. He lived without regrets or baggage. Faced with a devastating diagnosis, he was a lesson in composure for all.
Bay formed and maintained long friendships with people of all ages. Many were from his childhood, the mortgage insurance industry and his Uncle Harry Neal's stock brokerage firm. Most shared his love of the outdoors and fishing.
He is survived by his girls, wife Barbara, daughter Sara Jane Brazda (Chris), granddaughters Carly Neal, Keane Brazda, and Hannah Neal, and daughter-in-law Maria Zorn (Steve), niece Rachel Andrews, and nephew Grayson Andrews.
He was preceded in death by his father, F. Bay Neal, Sr. and son, F. Bay Neal, III.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderful friends who visited and gave their support during his illness. A memorial service and reception will be held on July 16, 2011 at the Sparrows Nest, Bud N' Mary's Marina at MM 79.8 in Islamorada at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Florida Keys or Friends of the Islamorada Area State Parks.
