Biography

Francis Gene Burkel, "LITTLE FEATHER" 75, of Islamorada, Florida died at his home on April 29, 2010. He was born in Mankato, MN to John Burkel and Gertrude Schieble. He was a golden gloves champ in high school. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He lived Cologne for 32 years and moved to Islamorada 13 years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Jim and Roger, a son Tim and a daughter Kari. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Virginia; children Sara (Steve) Meyer of N. Mankato, MN, Krisy Burkel of Shakopee, MN, Kelly (Ron) Huntington of Shakopee, MN, Kyle (Emily) Burkel of Tavernier, FL, Kory Burkel of Mankato, MN, Kody Joe (Gina) Burkel of Waconia, MN, Kasey Burkel of St. Claire, MN. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; his sister Helen Neubert of Mankato and 2 brothers Dr. William (Dee) Burkel of Chelsea, Mich and Steven (Cindy) Burkel of Eagan, MN. There will be a Celebration of His Life at the Ocean View on May 15 at 2:00 PM.
