Dorothy Sheppard

March 14, 1927 — January 20, 2017

Dorothy Patricia “Pat” Sheppard, 89, died January 20, 2017 surrounded by the love and admiration of her family. Born in Hephzibah, Ga., Pat called the community of Islamorada her home for the last 57 years.

She was welcomed to heaven by the loving arms of her daughter Karen Poe and her husband Richard Sheppard.

Mom to Susan Ellis and her husband, Gary; forever she will be “Mimi” to her granddaughters, Skye Curtis and Nicole Ellis, as well as Skye’s sons Kyle and Austin. Only the treasure of her great-grandsons could increase the joy she had in being the most incredible Mimi imaginable to Skye and Nicole.

A breast and ovarian cancer survivor, Pat was determined to be by the side of those she loved for every minute she could, unconditionally supporting them.

Shortly after her granddaughter Nicole was born with cystic fibrosis, Pat helped to found Redbone, a fishing tournament series to fund research for the cure of CF. Till the day of her death, Pat worked as a bookkeeper for Redbone.

No words can manifest her wit, her subtle sense of humor, or her both mischievous and kind smile. There is less beauty in this world without her bright blue eyes, full of joy and fight, inspiring all those who knew her to live strongly.

Pat “Mimi” will always will be proud of her girls and all they accomplish; proud of their bravery and love, all of which she instilled in them.

Per Pat’s request there will be no services. At a later date, her ashes will be spread in the teal-blue waters she loved. To honor her memory, tax deductible donations can be made to the Redbone (at 305-664-2002 or PO Box 273 Islamorada Fl. 33036) continuing her dedication to catching the cure.
