Doris Fortune, 87, passed away January 29, 2024. Doris was born and raised in Washington DC. She was a trailblazer in many ways, always believing women could accomplish anything they wanted. She loved reading and music. Her home was always filled with books and record albums. She was a talented musician and played many musical instruments including the piano, guitar, and banjo. She managed one of the largest nightclubs on the East Coast, traveling around the country to see and book acts. She met many of the movie stars and singers of her day.
She vacationed in the Florida Keys, fell in love with the area and moved there. Her independent and indomitable spirit fit well there.
She was kind and generous to a fault, always looking out for others. You could always find her nursing a sick cat or helping someone in need. She spent countless hours doing volunteer work.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Ashley, and sisters, Judy Brand and Debbie Blocker.
