Donna Jean Slater-Davis was born in Utica, Michigan on 11-9-39. Following a year long battle with Leukemia, Donna left this world peacefully, on March 1, 2018. She spent her final days just as she planned, at her home in Key Largo, overlooking her beautiful view of the ocean which she so dearly loved. Donna was the eldest of four children born to Durwin and Amanda Davis. In 1956 she married the father of her three children, Robert McMichael. Together they raised three boys. After raising her family, Donna returned to college in 1977 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended St. Clair Community College where she received her degree in nursing and became a licensed practical nurse. Years later she switched careers altogether, and became a sales distributor for Lipari Foods in Mount Clemens, Michigan. It was there she met the love of her life, Gordon Slater. She and Gordon enjoyed traveling the Caribbean, and loved spending time on their boat on Lake St. Clair. Gordon preceded her in death in 1989. Donna retired in 2004, and shortly afterwards married Harry Davis and moved permanently to Key Largo Florida. Harry preceded her in death in 2007. Animals, especially dogs, were Donna’s life throughout her later years. Donna was actively involved with the Upper Keys Humane Society for many years, serving as a board member, working on endless fundraising activities, and fostering dogs. Everywhere she went, she preached her familiar mantra, “Spay, neuter, adopt!” And if it appeared you may not have heard her the first time, she had no problem telling you again! Donna is survived by her three sons, Joel McMichael of Marysville MI, Dean (Jeannie) McMichael of Carlsbad, CA, and Neil McMichael (Mike Roth) of Key West, FL. She is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Vita) Davis of Rome, NY, and Raymond (Donna) Davis of Utica, MI. She was preceded in death by her dear younger sister Carol (Chester) Storey. She is survived by four grandchildren, Jordan (Jonathan) Zweng, Jacob and McKenna McMichael and Benjamin Roth, and three great grandchildren, Rayna Zweng, Nathan and Katherine Roth, and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Donna’s wishes there will be a private celebration of life with family, scheduled at a later date. The family requests that any donations in Donna’s memory be made the the Upper Keys Humane Society, 101617 Overseas Highway, Key Largo, FL 33037.
