Donald Leal Harris, died on December 17, 2009. He was born on April 2, 1926 in Burlington, Iowa to Marion and Sadie Harris. He married Ruth Hickox on October 16, 1943 in Burlington, deceased March, 1993. He served 2 years in the US Army during WW II including one year in Germany. He lived in Iowa for 44 years before moving to Florida. He was a registered professional engineer in the State of Iowa and earned numerous patents while working both in Iowa and Florida. He married Joyce Lundeen on August 20, 1994 in Key Largo, Florida. In was a member of engineering clubs in both Miami and Iowa and held officer positions with both clubs. He was a member of the Key Largo Civic Club and Life Member of the Elks Club. His hobbies were water skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, sailing and boating, reading golfing hunting and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters Mildred, Faye, Lucille, Delores and a brother Dean. Don is survived by his three sons Donald L. (Judy) of Tavernier, FL, Steve (Jean) of Pawleys Island, SC and Mike (Anna) of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grand children; two step daughters, Cindy (George) Ricks of Eolia, MO and Tina Carson of Burlington, IA. Donald is also survived by 3 sisters Fern (Don) Abben in Waterloo, IA, and Dorotha Lowe in Burlington and Shirley (Jim) Fox in Alexandria, MO; and 2 brothers Leon Lyle (Wanda) Harris in Burlington, IA and Marion Harold Harris in New London, IA. A service was held at the Beyer Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 22, 2009.
