David Winfield Roberts, a longtime resident of Key Largo, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on February 1st, 2021 at the age of 65. He leaves behind his longtime partner of 24 years, Gail Martell.
David is survived by his children and their respective partners and children: Jenelle Collazo (Joiner), Reese Joiner, Courtney McDannold and William “DJ” Roberts. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Theresia Roberts, and their children, Adam and Melissa.
He was born in Valdosta, Georgia to Calvin and Ann Roberts on November 16, 1955 and preceded by his parents. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a pharmacy technician and remained until he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1997 at Eglin Air Force Base. While in the Air Force, he was on remote in the Philippines when Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991 and stayed behind on the medical team after the eruption. During these years, he was an avid softball player, golfer, karaoke singer, air drummer, joker, and fisherman.
It was after he retired that he moved to the Keys, to be with the love of his life. While here, he enjoyed many years, living in paradise and continuing his love of friends, fishing and singing. A Christian man, he was devoted and active in the church, and was always there to help anyone in need. He was also an active member in the Coral Isle Church, where he served as the music director, and the Elks Lodge, where he was a Loyal Knight, Trustee and held other positions within the group.
