Christopher James Anthony Fleming (Chris), age 54, of Key Largo, FL, lost his battle with Leukemia on Friday April 27, 2012. Chris died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and several close friends. Hospice of the Florida Keys and his sister, Jeannette Kelly provided excellent loving care.
Chris was born in Key West on September 25, 1957 to James and Hope Kelly. The large portion of Chris' youth was spent in Illinois, birthplace of his parents. He was employed in many occupations, beginning with farm work, Army Corps of Engineers, Burlington Northern Railway, Ninehouser Appliances, Ocean Reef Club maintenance, and others. He owned and operated Davis Sales and Fire Extinguishers in the Keys. Chris was a longtime member of the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department and served as President of the Fire Association. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and various other organizations. He donated many hours to Community Events, Fund Raisers and thoroughly enjoyed helping anyone who needed his assistance. He was also Captain and co-owner of the legendary sailing boat, the Mortail.
Chris was predeceased by his father, James Fleming; Brother, Timothy Jon Fleming; Half Brother: Todd Kelly; step sister: Louella Kelly Byers; and Step Father Charles Kelly.
He is survived by his fiancé©e, Monica Caceres of Miami; His mother Hope Fleming Kelly of Interlachen, FL; Son, Jason Fleming; Grandsons: Ryan and Jason Fleming; Sisters: Cathleen Fleming Roy and Juliet Fleming Stage; Brother: Terry Fleming; Half-sisters: Jeannette Kelly, Heather Kelly, and Lisa Fleming; Half-brothers: Jamie Fleming and Raymond Fleming; Step Sisters: Konnie Kelly and Kathy Kelly Davis; Step Brother: Chuck Kelly; and Many, Many devoted Friends.
Chris was an Episcopalian and Fr. Charles Cannon of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Islamorada, FL will officiate in the funeral service on Saturday, May 5th, at Rowell's Marina in Key Largo, Mile Marker 104.5 Bayside, from 5:30 P.M. until Sunset (casual dress).
The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Chris' name to the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department or to the Leukemia Research Foundation for AML.
Allen-Beyer Funeral Home in Key Largo and the Key Largo Fire Department are in charge of arrangements.
