Carl Lindback, Jr., known as Poppy to all, passed away peacefully at home in Islamorada on March 12, 2018 with his family by his side. He was 89 years old and had lived and raised his family in Islamorada for the past 62 years. Carl was born to Carl Sr & Ellen Carlson Lindback on September 11, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois and attended Amundsen High School. He then served in the Army attached to the Airborne in the Korean War from 1951-1953, and was the recipient of 3 medals. Carl married the love of his life, Marlene Lindback on September 24, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois.
Carl and Marlene moved to Islamorada where they founded and built La Siesta Resort in Islamorada, Florida in 1956. Here they lived, raised their children, and managed LaSiesta for almost 50 years before they sold the Resort in 2005. Carl & Marlene currently own The Lorelei Restaurant in Islamorada. Carl was a skilled carpenter and contractor. He installed terrazzo floors throughout the Upper Keys from 1956 – 1974. What he really loved besides raising his 4 sons, was fishing aboard his Charter Boat "The Tiki", which his son Roy took over in 1985 and continues to Charter today.
Carl was a great man and a friend to all! He was a past President of the Islamorada Fishing Club, and a past Commodore of the Florida Keys Outboard Club.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Elsie Gustafson, and his twin brother Roy Lindback.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Marlene, his four sons and spouses Carl III & Cheryl, Roy & Donna, Craig, and Brian & Jude, his 10 grandchildren Karin Foy, Kristin Govea, Coral Cribb, Brian Lindback Jr., Jonathon Lindback, Seanna Lindback, Airiana Lindback, Skylynn Lindback, Carly Lindback, and Roy John Jr (R.J.) Lindback, and his 5 great grandchildren Steven Bristow, Sean Bristow, Dean Govea, Meredith Govea, and Ethan Foy.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, March 23, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm at Allen-Beyer Funeral Home in Key Largo. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 12:00noon at the Matecumbe United Methodist Church in Islamorada, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the United Methodist Church of Islamorada, Florida, or a Charity of choice.
