Brona Galloway Dunn, age 87, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 28, 2017. One who loved and lived for her family, she passed away peacefully in their presence at her home in Tavernier. Brona was born in 1930, one of 13 children, and raised in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. She attended nursing school at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and it was there that she met her husband, Robert H. Dunn. They married in 1952, settled in Bob’s hometown of Miami, and started their family. In 1964 the Dunn family moved to Tavernier, where Bob opened our area’s first bank. Brona raised their five children in the Upper Keys, and was involved in numerous community activities over the years. After her children graduated high school, Brona returned to work as a home health aide for Monroe County and was beloved by those whom she served. Her retirement years were spent doing what she loved most, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. It was her love of family that sustained her through the last year and a half of her life as she battled cancer. Brona was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ida Galloway and husband, Robert H. Dunn. She is survived by her children, Jim (Anne) Dunn, Patrick (Nancy) Dunn, Mary (Eric) Griffin, Carol Moody and Donna Dunn; grandchildren John (Lauren) Dunn, Stephanie (Bobby) Zlockie, Erin (Sam) Muir, Andrew (Ashley) Dunn, Emily (Justin) Carter, Amy Griffin and Christine (Scott) Weeden-Moody; and great-grandchildren Brookelyn, Isla, Merrick, Eloise, Colin, Evan, Fisher and Violet. She is also survived by sisters Sylvia (John) McCrary, Annie Sue Manus, Shirley (Calvin) Tinsley, Patricia Hampton, sister-in-law June Dunn and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. All those whose lives have been touched by Brona are invited to join the family in services honoring her life and legacy.
