Brian Joseph Kiefer, 78 (June 11, 1941-January 11, 2020) passed away peacefully in his Florida Keys home of natural causes. He was the eldest of 8 children, son of Joseph and Caroline Kiefer of Queens, New York. Brian was a native of Queens and Long Island, New York. Brian had an extensive teaching career – he taught physics at Smith Town New York High School for 20 years (1962-1982). Brian gave freely of his time which included his electrical talents and innovative lighting knowledge at student events and plays. Brian left Smith Town in 1982 for a second 19-year career teaching in the international school system. He taught in private schools in Japan, Nairobi Kenya, Thailand, Turkey and Venezuela. Brian retired in 2000 to Florida – where he wanted to travel to a warmer climate where he could dig an outside fishpond that would supply angel tropical fish all year - that was the Florida Keys which he loved dearly for 20 years. Brian’s ‘Keys’ friends will remember him for his daily bicycle rides up and off Overseas Highway.
Brian was one of eight children, Brian now leaves behind 5 brothers and sisters: Doriann of New York, Kevin and sister-in-law Diane of Delaware, Carol Ann and Al Pastore of North Carolina, Mark Kiefer, Dennis Kiefer and Pat Kiefer of Pennsylvania, Brian also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews.
No formal services are planned at this time, a memorial service for Brian will be held at a later date.
