Alex W. Creedon III
Captain Alex W. Creedon III, 63, died unexpectedly Monday, March 10, 2014, at his home on Big Pine Key, FL. He was the son of Sylvia Alvord Creedon and Alex W. Creedon, Jr. of West Hartford, CT. Born in 1950, he was brought up in West Hartford, graduated from Kingswood School in 1969 and received his degree in Business from Georgetown University in 1973. The next three years were devoted to driving from the U.S. to Tierra De Fuego, Argentina, exploring all of Central and South America and studying their people, customs and economies. When he returned, he started to follow his interests in life outdoors and the environment. Alex developed a vineyard in Colebrook, CT, while spending the winters sailing "Shadowfax" in the Bahamas and Keys. The grapes he grew were marketed to the growing Connecticut wine industry. He married, started his family and moved to the Florida Keys. There he earned a Maritime Master Captains license and became a certified scuba diving instructor. Alex applied his talents, interests and degrees in many jobs, including owning a charter dive business, captaining Little Palm Island vessels, running dive trips for Underseas Dive Shop, then sharing his local expertise to assist The Nature Conservancy by captaining their research vessels. Next, Alex worked for Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary where he captained many missions to the Tortugas and beyond in support of science, education and resource protection.
Alex was predeceased by his daughter Lorien. He is survived by his parents, Sylvia and Alex Creedon, Jr.; daughter, Maya, her husband Jason Deis and their daughter Dylan; three sisters: Katharine Creedon; Linda, her husband Tim Hitchcock, and their children Grace, Katharine and Luke; Suzanne and her husband James Walsh and their children Tyler and Brooke. Alex leaves behind his longtime partner MaryLou Webster and her daughter Jessie.
Alex had an adventurous spirit, the courage to follow his own path in life and a kind, loving heart. He was a part of a large, loving family and had many friends, all of whom he cherished.
